Signs You Need a Storm Damage Roof Inspection

From the ground

  • Shingles or pieces of shingle in the yard
  • Missing shingles or exposed black underlayment
  • Bent or loose gutters and downspouts
  • Dented gutters, vents, or AC units (a sign of hail)
  • Tree limbs on or touching the roof

Inside the house

  • New water stains on ceilings or walls
  • Dripping around light fixtures or chimneys
  • Wet insulation or damp smell in the attic
  • Daylight through the attic boards
  • Peeling paint near the top of walls

Wind damage is the most common storm damage we see in North Jersey. Strong gusts can break the seal that holds shingles down. The shingle may lie flat again after the storm but now has a crease, and it will lift and leak in the next rain. You can only find these by inspecting the roof up close.

What We Check During a Free Storm Damage Roof Inspection

  1. Every slope of the roof: missing, lifted, creased or cracked shingles and hail bruises.
  2. Flashing at chimneys, skylights, walls and vents.
  3. Soft metals: gutters, drip edge, vents and caps, where hail leaves clear marks.
  4. Attic and ceilings: water entry, wet insulation and deck damage.
  5. Siding and gutters: often damaged by the same storm and part of the same claim.

You receive photos of everything we find, and an honest opinion: whether it looks like storm damage worth a claim, a simple repair, or nothing to worry about.

How We Help With the Insurance Claim

Storm damage from wind, hail or a fallen tree is usually covered by a standard homeowners policy. On covered claims, you only pay your deductible. Here is how we work:

  1. Free inspection and photo report of all the damage.
  2. Emergency tarping if needed, to stop further damage (policies expect you to protect the home).
  3. You report the claim to your insurer. We explain what to say and what to send.
  4. We meet the adjuster on your roof so nothing is missed.
  5. We repair or replace the roof with GAF materials once the claim is approved.

Questions Homeowners Ask Us

How soon after a storm should I get my roof inspected?

As soon as possible, ideally within days. Most policies require prompt reporting, and hidden damage like creased shingles gets worse with every rain.

Is the storm damage roof inspection really free?

Yes. There is no cost and no obligation, whether or not you file a claim.

My roof looks fine from the ground. Should I still check it?

If there were strong winds or hail in your area, yes. Creased shingles and hail bruises are rarely visible from the street.

Do you do emergency tarping?

Yes. If water is coming in, call (844) 423-1235 and we will cover the damaged area to protect your home until the repair.
